Our Story

Quilting With A Paintbrush For Over A Decade!
From The Midwest To The Southwest.

Watkin Barn Quilts was established in Southwest Iowa the fall of 2012, when Charlene, the owner, was just 14 years old. With a skill she learned in 4-H, she decided to jump head first into the world of small business. Not alone however, with parents Charles and Mary Watkin and four younger siblings, our family banded together to make Watkin Barn Quilts what it is today!

Pictured is Charlene in the summer of 2023 standing next to the very first barn quilt she ever made back in 2012.
This 4x4 has hung at the Watkin Family Farm for over fourteen years!

For over a decade, we’ve picked up tips and tricks to ensure our products can look beautiful for years! We specialize in custom barn quilts to give our customers a one-of-a-kind piece that means the most to them!
All our custom orders are made with quality exterior wood, primers, paints and sealers.

Recently, Charlene has broaden her horizons and moved to the Southwest! Her and her partner, Ryan and their three pups are bringing more colors and shapes to their community in Southwest New Mexico.

Now seasonally based in Iowa AND New Mexico. Charlene continues to makes custom barn quilts and teaches painting workshops in both areas and even between!

After years of learning and expanding this trade, Charlene offers in person workshops for others to make their own barn quilt with more budget friendly materials and learn some aspects of this folk art!

As always, reach out to us! We’d love to chat and help customize your own barn quilt or get you plugged into a workshop!
